Introduction to Harmer Family Research

Forty-eight years of Harmer research, in one place

Since 1978 the Association has traced Harmers from every walk of life from across the globe. What follows is the shape of that work: the three distinct family lines we have identified, what twenty years of DNA testing has proved about them and how to reach the records themselves.

What is in the archive

Records come from all over the world, contributed over five decades by members sharing resources, expertise and family photographs.

The HFA Database

Outside of the archive available on this site, the HFA has been building and maintaining a lineage database of Harmers that now has over 58,850 historic records in it.

Help the research

A single certificate can unlock a whole branch

If you hold documents, photographs or a tree for your own line — or you have spotted something in the database that is wrong — we would be glad to hear from you. Most of what is here arrived exactly that way.
