Who Are We

The Harmer Family Association (HFA) was born in 1978 from a simple but powerful idea: that the scattered descendants of the Harmer family, spread across continents and centuries, deserved a place to find one another. Founded by Dale Harmer in Washington State and Stanley John Harmer in England it grew into something neither could have fully anticipated.

Today, the HFA brings together members from across the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia & New Zealand and beyond, united by a shared surname and a shared curiosity about the people who carried it before them.

As a non-profit organisation, the HFA exists to serve its members and the broader family. Its aims are to:

Promote and support research into the history of the Harmer family
Promote unity and fellowship amongst the descendants of the Harmers
Sponsor the publication of a regular newsletter
Sponsor the publication of a history of the Harmers
